Laxative Overuse

Laxatives promote dependency.

About the Laxative Habit

The laxative habit is an inability to move the bowel without the use of a laxative or other bowel interventions. The dependency is developed by repeatedly using laxatives. Dependency is reversible using Fruit-Eze™ Regularity Blend.

What are the Consequences?

In short period of time, over use of laxatives can dry-out the colon lining, weaken colon muscles, and damage colon nerves. The colon can become insensitive, intestinal motility can slow, normal processes fail, and, as a result, chronic constipation can develop. With long term use, individuals may also experience abdominal pain, low energy, thirst, dry eyes, headaches, dehydration, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, puffiness, vomiting, loss of the defecation reflex, weight loss, hair loss, mood swings, bone pain, damage to other organs and syndromes resembling colitis. Damage from the laxative habit is reversible using Fruit-Eze™ Regularity Blend.

Breaking the Laxative Habit

The laxative habit cannot be quit "cold turkey" without serious health risks. If you think you are dependent on laxatives to move your bowel, consult your doctor about weaning off the laxative and how to recover normal bowel function. If your doctor has prescribed a laxative to help you to cope with the constipating side effects of a medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist about your options.
